The early days of emulation are hazy, and a lot has been lost to the ether, but two of the earliest (successful) attempts to run Super Nintendo games on PC were SNES96 and SNES97. Is it possible to convert saves from Snes9x to other emulators?Īlso, is it possible to convert the saves that I have on SNES9x to the format that these other emulators use? technically higan is the most accurate snes emulator but really the differences in game between it and the latest versions of snes9x and bsnes are imperceptible. It has stunningly low overhead, so if you’re stuck on grandma’s old Windows ME Hewlett-Packard, ZSNES is the emulator of choice. The last advantage ZSNES has over other emulators is that it can run on a turnip. If you are looking for a highly accurate emulator with better performance that is easier to use than higan, check out bsnes instead. Why is ZSNES better than other emulators? If you have questions or comments, there is an official message board for higan.īecause of higan's quirkiness, the author has resumed development of bsnes. Higan is also available for OS X and Linux, but you have to compile it yourself.
Bsnes vs snes9x full#
The author of higan calls this system "Game Paks, " and a full explanation is available on the official site. Things like save states and save games are then stored alongside in that folder. It will put each game into its own folder. It'll copy every ROM you load with it to an "Emulation" folder in your home folder (this is configurable). The way higan handles ROMs is also a little different. Even for playing full screen no hotkey is assigned by default. For example, one thing you may need to do is configuring the controls as by default no keymap is set up.
